The Louis XVI style quotes Greek Antiquity mixed with nature, as seen on the frieze of the band. This frieze is a Greek frieze, symmetrical, with a wave motif. The waves are interspersed with acanthus leaves, which fill the rest of the space. Above the band, a frieze of ovals surrounds the fireplace. The console part of the leg features a recurring motif of the Louis XVI style, a floral motif composed of acanthus leaves and a central bud. The rest of the leg is a free-standing Corinthian column, recognizable by the two rows of acanthus leaves on the capital. The rest of the column is fluted and tapered, a recurring motif in the Louis XVI style. From the middle of the column, the flutes are filled in with field grasses, then with cylinders, a blend of antique and nature. Finally, at the bottom of the column, leaves surround the column as it rises vertically.
Sold with a modern cast iron insert adapted to this fireplace and with its original marble floor.
