This Directoire-style fireplace is two-colored, composed of two different marbles. This choice is highly representative of fireplace compositions in this style. The fireplace is symmetrical. The band is carved by moldings with rectangular or circular ends. Inside these moldings, two white lines stand out, contrasting with the beige marble veined with gray, red or blue. In the center of the band, a sunflower is carved in a different marble from the one that surrounds it. Above the leg, the fireplace is decorated with two white butterflies in the same color as the central flower, framed by a square carved in beige marble. The butterfly can be seen as a remake of imperial iconography. It can be seen, for example, on Le Grand écrin of Joséphine Empress.

The legs are white half-columns, with only the moldings in relief around the top (astragalus) and bottom (torus) of the column are in the beige marble of the fireplace.

The fireplace's various patterns, borrowed from nature and Greek Antiquity, are reminiscent of the Louis XVI style inherited by the Directoire style in the 1790s.

This fireplace comes with an antique cast iron insert adapted to this fireplace but without any marble floor. This one could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).
