Style Napoleon III / Ref.15898

Pair of gilt bronze andirons, Restoration style, early 19th century

Dimensions
Width 9'' ½  24cm
Height 15'' ¾  40cm
Depth: 4'' ¾  12cm

Pair of finely chiseled gilt bronze andirons, characteristic of the French Restoration style, circa 1820–1830. Each andiron features a cylindrical shaft topped with a stylized flame, set on an openwork base richly decorated with vegetal scrolls, beaded garlands, and a central female mask in low relief. The shafts are engraved with a royal crown above an oval medallion framed by laurel branches, containing three fleurs-de-lys — a symbolic reference to the restored Bourbon monarchy. The iconography clearly places the pieces in the Restoration period (1814–1830). The precision of the chiseling and the well-preserved gilding highlight the exceptional craftsmanship. Both ornamental and functional, these andirons would have adorned the fireplaces of aristocratic or affluent bourgeois interiors in the early 19th century.
