This iron firescreen was made in the 1930s - 1940s. It represents the tale of the Pied Piper of Hamelin, a German legend popularized by the Grimm brothers.
The well-known story is that of a flute player able to charm the rats in order to get rid of them for the city of Hamelin. The vagabond musician of the legend is represented here as a grasshoper.
