Nikolai Iwanowitsch Lieberich (model by) for the Woerffel Foundry in Saint-Petersbourg - Antique Bronze and black marble writing set

Important and rare bronze and black marble writing set with bears at rest decor. The set consists of a desk-top blotter, a card holder, an inkwell and a pen holder. The large inkwell features a lying adult bear. In front of him, a tree trunk is an ink reservoir where two bear cubs play. The small inkwell is in the same spirit, with a smaller bear, figured in a different position. Both bears are known models made by the great Russian sculptor Nikolai Iwanowitsch Lieberich and realized by the bronze manufacturer Woerffel in St. Petersburg which is 'Official Imperial Supplier' in 1895. The Great Bear model was designed in 1866. This complete writing set, with a superb bronze chiseling, is quite exceptional and extremely rare. It was probably made around 1880-1890 by Woerffel foundry. See illustrations in the book 'Николай Либерих. 1828–1883' published in 2012 at Palace Editions.

Longwy faience: pair of vases on a wood base

Enameled faience, bases made out of wood. This pair of vases was made by the Longwy manufacturer, Fainencerie of Meurthe-et-Moselle, around 1880. In blue enameled faience and goldened with an engraved decoration, these two vases are elaborately decorated on their paunches. A vegetal decor of floral branches decorates the whole surface of the faience. In the middle of each vase there is a cartouche with an intertwining decor, around which there are bats with their wings spread. These same bets are displayed in relief on the neck of each vase. These vases play on the ornamental vocabulary from the Far East that were really in fashion in France at the time, thanks to the Universal Exhbitions where China was able to present its most illustrious creations. Created in 1798, the Faincerie of Longwy was well renowned from the start of the 19th century. With the arrival of the Italian Amédée from Carenza who bought with him the technique of cloisonné enamels on faience, the Faiencerie diversified and largely expanded its production, changing it to produce oriental and Far East style works of art, according to the trend at the time. This pair of vases is a clear example of this.

CHOISY LE ROI MANUFACTURE, Coffee and tea set in the Oriental style

Made up of ten pieces, this coffee and tea set bears the mark of the manufacturing company of Choisy-Le-Roi, and is from the Hippolyte Boulenger period. Made out of enamelled faience around 1880-1890, this coffee and tea set in oriental style is characteristic of the trend at the time to move towards exotic styles, from Japan to China, whilst passing through The Orient. The two jugs for the coffee and the tea, the water container, the sugar bowl and the five cups with saucers are enamelled in green and yellow from the bottom, in order to create subtle gradations. The enamelled work is of very high quality. The abstract engraved decoration is made up of concentric and twisting lines, whilst the top of the handles of the different pieces are decorated with animal protomes, either eagles or dragons.

Albert-Ernest Carrier de Belleuse called « CARRIER-BELLEUSE » (1824 - 1887) (after), Bust of a young Lady, Biscuit porcelain

This sculpture was made in the 19th century in biscuit porcelain. The statue represents the bust of a young lady with a veil. She is dressed in the Neo-Renaissance style. The famous sculptor Carrier-Belleuse created the model for this sculpture. Thus, it is marked "Carrier Belleuse" on the back of the base. This sculptor was a very important artist at his time. He participated in the Garnier Opera's construction, he was in charge of the "torchères au tambourin", which were importants lamps in the main stairs. He also was the professor of Auguste Rodin.
