Imposing Neo-Renaissance cabinet in walnut, marble, gilt bronze and hardstones, circa 1870

Important two-part cabinet crowned with a sculpted pediment, centered by a high-relief gilt bronze figure of a female allegory. The richly decorated façade features carved walnut panels framing gilt bronze plaques depicting female allegories and antique scenes, along with inlays of marble, hardstones, and red stone cabochons. Numerous finely chased bronze mounts also adorn the piece, showcasing motifs of cherubs, deities, and classical emblems. This ensemble is a remarkable example of 19th-century eclecticism inspired by the Italian Renaissance, combining luxurious materials with refined ornamentation.

A striking set of hammered wrought iron andirons and fireplace tools, featuring uprights surmounted by fantastical dragon heads — open jaws, protruding tongues, and twisted horns. The shafts are richly decorated with geometric patterns, raised studs, stylized flowers, and twisted bands. The arched bases end in powerful clawed feet. The set includes: Two sculptural andirons with ornamental columns, A crossbar with engraved motifs, Two hanging fireplace tools (shovel, tongs ), each adorned with a flower-shaped medallion. Engraved signature: “E. LARCHEVÊQUE à Mehun (Cher)” Mehun-sur-Yèvre, in central France, was a renowned hub for artistic ironwork in the 19th century. A rare and complete French ensemble from the late 19th century, blending neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance aesthetics with a strong medieval fantasy influence.
