Cristallerie Saint-Louis, Pair of ruby vases with Japanese decoration, c. 1880.
This pair of stork vases was made by the Saint-Louis crystal factory around 1880.
The Saint-Louis crystal factory was founded in 1585 in the Münzthal valley. She first worked with glass, before unlocking the secret of making crystal in 1781.
These ruby crystal vases are decorated with Japanese motifs. These were etched with acid, then enameled with gold.
Next to the stork, a Far Eastern tree blossoms on its belly.
