Bearing the number of Mohamed's name mirrored on its body, our vase is in keeping with the orientalist taste of the second half of the 19th century.
In glass decorated with enamel and gold, our vase dates from the end of the 1870s and bears the signature of Lobmeyr.
J. & L. Lobmeyr was an Austrian crystal factory of international importance, founded in 1823 and represented during the Universal Exhibitions.
Famous for its crystal chandeliers and decorative objects, it supplied the Viennese imperial court, as well as the crowns of Belgium and that of Flanders.
The motifs that decorate our vase are freely inspired by the ornamental repertoire of the Near East.
In accordance with Eastern tradition, these motifs are non-figurative. They magnify the play of interlacing, arabesques and colors.
A similar model was presented in the Lobmeyr stand in Paris during the Universal Exhibition of 1878.
A similar piece is kept at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris.
