This Louis XVI-style fireplace is carved in statuary marble, a uniformly white marble from the Carrara quarries in the Apuan Alps. The band is composed of three parts. A central carved section, similar to a frieze from ancient Greek monuments, depicts four toddlers on clouds looking at and showing a painting. The other two parts are identical, decorating the band with rectangles of pearls, a motif frequently used in the Louis XVI style. The console part of the fireplace is adorned with a floral motif of overlapping acanthus leaves and a central knob in the shape of a flower. The rest of the base is a half-column of the Ionic order, recognizable by its molded base and scrolls on the capitals. The column's flutes are partly filled with field grasses, then with marble.
This fireplace is sold with its original cast iron insert and with its marble floor.
