This Louis XVI-style fireplace, crafted in the 19th century, is made from Brèche de Médous, a French marble quarried in the Hautes-Pyrénées. This distinctive material is known for its variegated appearance, featuring a light beige background interspersed with angular fragments of darker, ochre, or pinkish stones, creating a highly expressive and contrasting visual effect. The model features a façade with rounded corners, adorned with a simply moulded frieze centered by a carved medallion in reserve. The slightly curved jambs are fluted and rest on moulded bases, in keeping with the classical codes of the Louis XVI style. The finely profiled shelf follows the gentle curve of the architectural lines. The piece combines the decorative restraint characteristic of the style with the vibrant, almost pictorial quality of the marble. It reflects how 18th-century aesthetics were reinterpreted in the 19th century, where balanced forms interact with the richness of the material.

Sold with a modern cast iron insert adapted to this fireplace and with its original marble floor.
