This Louis XVI style mantel follows the model of the oak leaf mantel with the oak leaves tumbling typically down over the console jambs. The jambs are adorned with flute-like molding, the central one is filleted with a swirling ribbon motif. The heads are square rosettes, an ornament widely popular in the Louis XVI style. The rectangular molded panels of the entablature are garnished with a frieze of pearls and flank a central oval rosette. The quality of the Carrara marble beautifully enhances the design.
Note the unusual insert in Sarrancolin marble.
