Beautiful curved cast iron fireback with Paris coat of Arms

This beautiful antique fireback was made during the 17th century. The arms of the city of Paris take the form that we know of from 1358 when king Charles V received the right to carry the royal arms (leader of the fleurs de lys and the royal crown). The ship featured refers to the large coporation of "Nautes de Lutèce", shipowners and merchants which navigated on the Seine in ancient times. Here, the vessel is surmounted with a crest.

This cast iron fireback was made at the end of the 19th century. It is adorned with a swann and a duck in reeds. There is above them a laurel leaves crown hold by a knotted ribbon.

This square fireback was made of cast iron in the late 19th century. It is adorned with an important perfume burner on its center framed with two mermaids turning their back and holding in their hands two beautiful flowers garlands.

Antique fireback with pillars of Hercules, 18th century

This fireback was made of cast iron during the 18th century. It is adorned with the Pilllars of Hercules, name given in the Roman antiquity to the mountains which bordered the Strait of Gibraltar and which symbolized the frontier between the civilized world and an unknown or dangerous world. The Pillars received their name from one of the twelve works of Hercules, during which he had to recover the oxen of Geryon, a triple-body monster, in order to bring them back to Eurystheus, who offered them to Hera in sacrifice.
