18th-century fireback with Louis Lepeletier de Rosanbo coat of arms and unicorns

Important 18th-century cast iron fireback with coat of arms.
This one belongs to the family Lepeletier. The blazon is as follows: « Azure base, with silver cross moline, stamped with a chevron, two six point Sable mullets and a golden rose ». Two unicorns support the shield (read our article about unicorn iconography). At the helm a marquis's crown and a mortar, symbol of the presidents of Parlement. This tends to point to Louis Le Peletier, Marquis of Rosanbo as the personal owner of these arms. Louis Lepeletier de Rosanbo was mortar president of the Paris’ Parlement from 1765 and Freemason which allows him to assist as a visiter to the fires lighting of the Parisien lodge « La Candeur » one October, 22th 1775. Supporter of Louis XVI , he was guillotined in Paris with his wife Antoinette de Lamoignon de Malesherbes and his father-in-law Chrétien Guillaume de Lamoignon de Malesherbes on April, 22 1794.
His private mansion, built in 1780 by the architecte Nicolas-Claude Girardin (1749 - 1786) is still visible on 62-64 rue René-Boulanger in the 10th district of Paris. It is mentionned in Mémoires d’outre-tombe by Chateaubriand.

POILLERAT Gilbert - Art Deco pair of doors and window railing, wrought iron and bronze, 1936

This pair of doors and this blacony in Art Deco style were made by the decorator Gilbert Poillerat in 1936 for the Caisse Autonome d'Amortissements Tabacs et Allumettes (Fund for Tobacco and Matches) Gilbert Poillerat (1902-1988), master of wrought iron, established himself in the 1930s as a first-class artistic ironworker. He was the author of numerous decorations for public buildings and was also commissioned to make the Chain of the Grand Master of the Order of the Liberation, handed over to Charles de Gaulle. His works now have their place in museums, when they no longer decorate the buildings of the time. These doors and this balcony were reproduced in the magazine "Art et Decoration" in 1936.

Antique large urn in French granite, mid-19th century

This large antique urn in French granite was made in the mid 19th century. The urn is decorated with a molded decoration and is on a pedestal whose lower part presents delicately carved patterns. One of the sides of the pedestal is adorned on its central part with carved volutes and geometric shapes.

François GIRARDON (after) - Reconstituted stone vase

Vase made of reconstituted stone, Medicis shape, after François GIRARDON. The body of the vase presents an allegorical decoration to the triumph of Amphitrite, the detached grips are in the shape of ram's heads with horns, the neck is decorated with laurel leaves, the base with acanthus leaves. Pedestal with wide flutes and molded torus. It rests on a rectangular stone base.

Concrete Rustic style garden furniture imitating trees, middle of the 19th century

These "Rusticage" garden furniture composed of a table, two benches and two chairs was made in concrete in the second half of the 19th century. Their uncommon shape imitates in a very realistic way old truncks sculpted to create furniture. Our garden furniture is a beautiful example of the "Rocailleur" style, which appears in France in architecture and gardens from the 1840's with the development of the artificial cement and use of concrete. This art defines an ornemental work that imitates nature whether rocks or natural stones, then calls "rocaillage", or wood called "rusticage". It's the Great Exhibitions and especially the creation of the Buttes-Chaumont in Paris in 1867 that contributed to the development and the recognition of the Frenchs style imitating nature.

Pair of large marble vases decorated with theatre masks

Pair of marble vases decorated with the theme of ancient theatre, made in marble in the 20th century. The top is decorated with foliage and a frieze of oves. Each side has three sculpted faces representing a man with a turban framed by two theatre masks symbolising comedy and tragedy. The surround is carved with two branches of vines tied with a ribbon and framed by two continuous mouldings. Underneath, garlands are hung with antique theatre masks. Musical instruments are depicted in slight relief on the side. The lower part of the vases is decorated with a frieze of arrows. They stand on a base sculpted with various decorative motifs.
