Leopold I fireback with two giants

18th century cast iron fireback with the arms of Leopold I (1679-1729), duke of Lorraine and of Bar. Two giants each holding a club reminiscent of Hercules, stand on Renaissance style pedestals and support the coat of arms of the Duke bearing the ducal crown. The arms reveal the different titles of Leopold I: King of Jerusalem, of Hungary and Aragon, Duke of Anjou, of Bar, of Gueldre and Juliers. More precisely from left to right and top to bottom: arms of Hungary; fleur de lys of Naples, Cross of the Kings of Jerusalem, arms of Anjou, of the house of Alsace (in the center), gold fleur de lys of Anjou, the lions of Gueldre and Juliers and finally the arms of the Duke of Bar.

Antique stone well from the 18th century

This very beautiful stone well was made during the 18th century in the tourainoise region. Height of 173cm, it is topped with a saddleback roof supported by four columns. The roof is crowned with a vase made out of the same stone. Originally a wooden hand crank system, serving to pull up the water, with the help of a chain.

Large Louis XVI style fireplace made out of white Carrara marble during the 1980's. Slightly curved mantel. Both jambs are carved with acanthus leaves. The frieze is ornated with a shell and foliages. The large overmantel mirror is painted and gilded.

Antique large cast iron fireback inspired by " The Oath of the Horatii" by David, first half of the 19th century

This antique fireback was made in the first half of the 19th century. In the center, in an octagonal medallion, four armed soldiers in antique-inspired outfit vigorously raise their arms over a fire. Their pose is directly inspired by David's painting exhibited at the Louvre Museum The Oath of the Horatii . This painting represents a mythical and legendary episode of ancient Rome: the Horace brothers swear to their father to conquer or to die in the war against the Curiaces to defend the city of Rome. A certain solemnity emanates from the scene represented on our fireback whose warrior theme is recalled by the decorations that surround it among which are banners, flags, laurel branches, crowns and a helmet.

An antique large trumeau with garlands of flowers

This antique Louis XVI style trumeau was made out of stucco during the 19th century. Faithful to the 18th century taste, the upper part is decorated with garlands of flowers. The mirror is framed by a thin beaded border and a frieze of ova.

Modern orientalist fireback with soldier

Small fireback made in the 20th century by the Corneau Foundry in Charleville-Mézières, which later became the Deville Foundry, Paillette et Cie, at the end of the 19th century. This plaque represents an orientalist soldier, probably a janissary of the Ottoman army.

Fireback with the Salamander of François I

This fireback was made in the 20th century. It is decorated with the Salamander of Francis I, a well-known symbol of the sovereign, engraved in stone at the Chambord and Fontainebleau Châteaux. According to legend, the Salamander hibernates in the stumps and wakes up when they are set on fire, hence its presence on this fireback. The two upper corners of the fireback are decorated with two small flowers.

Fireback "Hermes"

This cast iron fireback is decorated in the centre with the figure of the god Hermes. He is standing on tiptoe, wearing a simple drapery. He wears his winged helmet and holds his main attributes in his hands, the caduceus in his right hand and the silver purse in his left. He is shown standing on a platform next to a barrel.
