The subject is 'the Great Mogol". The chinoiserie is a caracteristic of the Louis XV style. A lot of chinoiserie was designed by Boucher, adapted also to furniture, objets d'art, materials, and porcelain. A very similar fireback with the same dimensions is in the Musée d'Orleans.

This fireback was made in the late 20th century in cast iron. It is adorned with a decoration composed of the hunting attributs surrounded by oak branches and two hunting dogs. The fireback is also dated 1977.

Carved stone fireplace with three-faced mask decoration

This carved limestone fireplace features a well-balanced architectural composition supported by engaged columns resting on moulded bases. The straight lintel is adorned at the centre with a sculpted medallion depicting a three-faced mask, surrounded by a raised rope motif forming lateral arabesques. This classically inspired design likely represents an allegorical or mythological figure, in keeping with the decorative vocabulary of the late 18th to early 19th century.
