Big antique fireback with jansenist decoration

This large 18th century fireback wears the Jansenist badge representing the three Theological Virtues. Faith is thus depicted as a blindfolded woman while Hope is represented by an anchor and Charity by a flaming heart. A Latin inscription runs along this medallion "Ardet Amans Spe Nixa Fides" which means "Faith, relied on Hope, burning with the fire of Charity." This sentence appeared in the frontispiece of all Jansenists books. Finally, the medallion is surrounded on all sides by the Cardinal Virtues : Fortitude, Justice, Temperance and Prudence.

"The King", antique 18th century fireback

This antique Louis XIV style fireback was made during the 18th century. A sovereign, crowned with laurels by the renowned, gives alms to a peasant woman.

This antique fireback was made in the 19th century. It is decorated with a winged putto holding a torch and represented among clouds and draperies. The year 1693 is engraved.

Cast iron fireback adorned with Vénus and two putti

This fireback was made of cast iron in the 20th century, it is a moulding from a casting. Shaped as a rectangle inflated on the center, our fireback receives on its center a mythological decoration where we recognize Venus sat and naked surrounded by two putti. The scene on a smooth background is framed by a Rococo decoration composed of shells, acanthus leaves and flowers garlands. The rest of the fireback receives a background decoration in light relief composed of diamons covered with flowers.

Empire style fireback "Venus and Cupid"

This Empire style fireback was made of cast iron in the late 19th century. It is adorned with a scene depicting the goddess Venus cleaning the face of Cupid. The scene is framed by a pearled edging, stylized palms motifs and scrolls with horns of plenty.
