This very beautiful cast iron fireback dates back to the middle of the 16th century. It is decorated with a coat of arms made out of oak surmounted on a crescent. Two dogs hold onto this coat of arms, and it is crowned by a fleur de lys.

This Neo-Renaissance style fireback plate was made during the 20th century. It is decorated with King Francis I's Salamander, a well-known symbol of the sovereign, engraved in stone at the Chateau de Chambord and the Chateau de Fontainebleau. According to legends, the Salamander hibernates in the stumps and wakes up when they are burned, hence its presence on this fireback .
