This antique Louis XV style cast iron fireback was made in the 18th century. It represents The toilet of Venus : surrounded by her maids, the goddess takes a look in the mirror. It is a mythological theme often represented in art, as on this painting by Charles Joseph Natoire exhibited in Bordeaux and whose this fireback seems inspired as the compositions are similar.

Louis XVI style mantel decorated with a Greek frieze carved in onyx

This Louis XVI-style fireplace is adorned with a Greek frieze covering the entire band. An acanthus leaf is placed at the center of this frieze. The combination of these two motifs, corresponding to nature and Greek Antiquity, is characteristic of the Louis XVI-style. On the console parts of the legs, a flower motif is constructed by the arrangement of acanthus leaves that follow the shape of a square and its central button in relief. The top of the legs is curved, giving spaces to scrolled carvings on the sides. On the face of the leg, verticals are carved, starting thick and tapering towards the base. Although the ornamentation on this fireplace is sober, the use of a sort of onyx makes it particularly precious, given its high cost. Indeed, onyx is rarely used for furniture but it is generally used for small size objects. This fireplace comes with its original cast-iron interior. The interior features two identical leaf bunches on the sides and a leaf crown mixed with branches on the top.

Entrance Door in Oak and Cast Iron, France, 19th Century

French entrance door from the 19th century, made of solid oak and adorned in its upper section with a finely cast iron grille. The ironwork, visible on both sides, features a symmetrical composition of leafy scrolls, palmettes, and floral rosettes. The glazed section is protected by an interior hinged panel that can be opened independently. The lower moulded wood panel retains a beautiful aged patina with wear marks attesting to its authenticity. The original cast iron handle is still present. This door combines strength, elegance, and the decorative craftsmanship typical of 19th-century French architecture.

Neo-Renaissance cabinet, Napoleon III era

This imposing Neo-Renaissance cabinet is a superb example of the eclectic taste under the rule of Napoleon III. Richly sculpted, it reuses the essential elements of Renaissance ornamentation: cornice, frieze of figures and Bacchic mascarons, a body flanked by pilasters with grotesque motifs and cornucopias supported by dolphins. A rare feature is the sculpted shields on the lower doors, depicting hunting and fishing trophies. Neo-Gothic chimeras are nestled in the corners and appear to support the upper section. The base of the cabinet take the appearance of monsters crushed beneath the weight of the piece—a motif borrowed from the corbels of Gothic architecture.

Maison Mottheau et Fils, Japonist gilt-bronze chandelier

Founded in 1864 by Maison Mottheau et Fils, when Ernest Mottheau was only 23 years old, the firm became one of the great Parisian names in the design and manufacture of chandeliers and candelabra. Ernest Mottheau frequently collaborated with sculptors in the creation of certain works. The firm took part in the Universal Exhibitions of 1867, 1878, 1889 (gold medal), and 1900. The 1900 Universal Exhibition crowned a lifetime of work, as Ernest Mottheau was awarded a Grand Prix for La Nature, a torchère in onyx and gilt bronze created in collaboration with the ornamental sculptor Eugène Piat, making full use of the possibilities offered by the then-new electrical technology. Designed around 1900, this Japonist chandelier with dragons in gilt bronze by Maison Mottheau is fitted with seven lights. It features three dragons descending onto an openworked hexagonal band. The winged creatures are finely chased, their jaws open in a powerful expression. Pierced Japonist motifs, evoking architectural elements, alternate with the dragons along the band. Flowering plum branches emerge from within these openwork motifs, while flower-shaped glass shades cover the bulbs. The lower section holds an engraved glass bowl and terminates in a fleuron motif.
