French, 19th century
An important vase in the form of a scroll, with a cylindrical body resting on a base adorned with a radiating cut star. The main decoration depicts two knights in armor mounted on caparisoned horses, their swords raised. One of the helmets is surmounted by a crown, while the horse saddlecloths and banners are strewn with fleurs-de-lis, the emblematic motif of French royalty. The composition reflects medieval chivalric imagery in the Troubadour style, popular throughout the 19th century. The decoration stands out in a light reserve against a hammered green background and is enhanced by a gold line that highlights the detail of the armor, harnesses, pleats, and heraldic motifs. The piece is distinguished by the delicate relief of the colored layer and the quality of the gold line, which accurately reproduces the profusion of fleur-de-lis fabrics. Produced by the Baccarat Crystal Factory, France, 19th century.
