Breche de Medous
Download PDF"Brèche de Médous" (Médous Breccia) is quarried in the communes of Médous and Asté, near Bagnères-de-Bigorre in the Hautes-Pyrénées department. This breccia consists of angular fragments in various colors, ranging from black and gray to yellow. The Marble Museum in Bagnères displays several varieties: "Brèche de Médous" from the Médous quarry, "Brèche de Médous Grise" (Gray Médous Breccia) from the Médous quarry, "Brèche de Médous" from the Beaudéan quarry, and "Brèche de Médous Jaune" (Yellow Médous Breccia) from the Médous-Beaudéan quarry. All of these quarries are now closed. This marble was used in the decoration of the Toulouse City Hall and for an altar in the Saint-Médard parish church in Labrit (Landes). During the 19th century, it was primarily used to craft fireplace surrounds and various interior decorative elements.
