This imposing set of garden ornaments was made in the late 19th century. It consists of two large oval-shaped woven baskets richly garnished with fruits and a few flowers. Examples include pineapple, grapes and sunflowers. The notion of opulence was particularly sought-after by the artist, who allowed some of the plants to spill over the edges of the basket. The whole has retained a lovely patina, partly covered with moss, reinforcing the naturalistic aspect of the piece.
