Concrete Rustic style garden furniture imitating trees, middle of the 19th century

These "Rusticage" garden furniture composed of a table, two benches and two chairs was made in concrete in the second half of the 19th century. Their uncommon shape imitates in a very realistic way old truncks sculpted to create furniture.
Our garden furniture is a beautiful example of the "Rocailleur" style, which appears in France in architecture and gardens from the 1840's with the development of the artificial cement and use of concrete. This art defines an ornemental work that imitates nature whether rocks or natural stones, then calls "rocaillage", or wood called "rusticage". It's the Great Exhibitions and especially the creation of the Buttes-Chaumont in Paris in 1867 that contributed to the development and the recognition of the Frenchs style imitating nature.
