Beautiful antique cast iron fireback dated 1728 with the coat of arms of the La Porte-Mazarin family. This coat of arms is described as follows: azure with a golden hatchet.
This plaque bears the arms of Paul-Jules de La Porte-Mazarin who lived from 1666 to 1731, son of Cardinal Mazarin's niece. Paul-Jules de La Porte-Mazarin was Duke of Meilleraye and Mazarini, Duke of Mayenne, Prince of the Château-Porcien, Marquis de Chilly, Longjumeau and Montcornet, Earl of Marle and Baron of Massy, Governor of Port Louis , Hennebont and Quimperlé. He was admitted to Parliament on 23 August 1700 and became peer of France on 9 November 1713. In 1685, he first married Charlotte Félicité de Durfort, then Françoise de Mailly in second marriage in 1731, just before his death.
