This Gothic fireplace was built in stone at the end of the 16th century. Its lintel is richly carved with “cabbage leaves”, a characteristic motif of 16th century architecture, arranged in a frieze. In the centre and in the corners, small figures of monsters frolic: the one in the centre is ape-like, and holds a bellows, as if to activate the flames below him; the one on the left is also in the form of a monkey, while the one on the right is more like a bird. The jambs are crowned with capitals decorated with sculpted female figures: the one on the left is holding a man by the hand, visible on the inside of the fireplace; the one on the right, wrapped in a finely detailed drapery, is accompanied by an animal. The jambs continue in pilasters hollowed out with two grooves in their centre, and end on a base decorated with diamond-point motifs. The external side face of the jambs is decorated with a plant frieze to which a fantastic animal is added.
