This Carrara marble fireplace is distinguished by its central shell-shaped palmette and two shells at the top of the legs, characteristic of the Louis XV style borrowing from the aquatic discourse of the Rococo style.

The band of this fireplace is curved with protruding edges and moldings following the shape of the band. At the center of the band is a large symmetrical palmette with ends that rise and curve in on themselves. This palmette is surrounded by scrolls, giving the central motif a shell-like shape. The palmette's highly detailed elements are made possible by the quality of the Carrara marble. This white marble, sometimes with grey veins, comes from the Apuan Alps in Italy, enabling the sculptor to work this fireplace in great detail.

The console part of the leg is hollowed out. In this hollow is carved a shell from a scroll in relief and a flower emerging from two finely sculpted scrolls. The rest of the fireplace leg is adorned with moldings with arched ends. On the sides of the leg, large scrolls contribute to its curved shape.

This fireplace is sold with a modern cast iron insert adapted to this fireplace but without any marble floor. This one could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).
