Exceptional antique Louis XV style Carrara marble mantel, with a rare wealth of sculpture. Its design and the various decorative elements are quite characteristic of Louis XV style. The entablature is adorned with a large flower covered shell, from which palmettes emerge. Their tips end with large leafy scrolls, that give birth to acanthus leaves. Under the deeply scrolled heads of the jambs, upside down shells nestle. Bellflowers, lush acanthus leaves and arabesques blossom forth from the shells on the jambs. This extraordinary antique mantel was made of a white Carrara marble -a sumptuous marble for sculpture.
