This antique fireback is composed of several iron bands assembled and riveted together. The structure is reinforced with large visible rivets regularly distributed across the entire surface. The upper section is fitted with two massive suspension rings and small volute-shaped attachments. This type of construction, made from assembled hammered iron plates, is characteristic of early productions intended to protect the back of the hearth while also helping to retain and radiate heat. The surface displays an old patina with traces of use and oxidation. Some cracks and material losses are visible on certain iron bands, consistent with the object’s age and prolonged exposure to fire.
